Depression - Meditation Machines Help Manage Depression and Anxiety
What is depression ?
Recent data suggests that depression is set to become one of the Western world’s largest burdens of ill-health.
Some people say that depression feels like a black curtain of despair coming down over their lives.
Many people feel like they have no energy and can't concentrate. Others feel irritable or sad all the time for no apparent reason. The symptoms vary from person to person, but if you feel "down" for more than two weeks, and these feelings are interfering with your daily life, you may be suffering from depression.
Depression is very common and it’s estimated that between 5 and 10 percent of the population are suffering from depression to some extent at any one time.
Women are twice as likely to get depression than men, It can affect people of any age, including children and teenagers,

Symptoms of depression
Stress can lead to you to feeling 'down' and 'miserable'. What is different about a period of depression is that these feelings last for weeks or months, rather than days. In addition to feeling low most or all of the time, many other symptoms can occur in depressive illness, such as:
- Being unable to gain pleasure from activities that normally would be pleasurable.
- Losing interest in normal activities, hobbies and everyday life.
- Feeling tired all of the time and having no energy.
- Difficulty sleeping or waking early in the morning (though some feel that they can't get out of bed and 'face the world').
- Having a poor appetite, no interest in food and losing weight (though some people overeat and put on weight - 'comfort eating').
- Finding it difficult to concentrate and think straight.
- Feeling restless, tense and anxious.
- Being irritable.
- Losing self-confidence.
- Avoiding other people.
How does a Meditation Machine work for managing depression?
It is advisable to see a doctor if you are suffering from severe depression, but meditation may also be useful.
Dedicating some time to meditation is a meaningful expression of caring for yourself that can help you move through periods of depression. As your mind grows quieter and calmer, you can begin to see self-defeating thought patterns for what they are, and open up to other, more positive options.
Recent research shows that meditation may also help people stay well after recovery from depression.
Their work is based on the observation that, once a person has recovered from an episode of depression, a relatively small amount of negative mood can trigger a large amount of negative thoughts.
Meditation helps people to see more clearly the patterns of the mind; and to learn how to recognise when their mood is beginning to go down. It helps to prevent the escalation of negative thinking that the depressed mood would normally have triggered. Meditators develop the capacity to allow distressing mood, thoughts and sensations to come and go, without having to battle with them. They find that they can stay in touch with the present moment, without having to ruminate about the past, or worry about the future.
Simply sit or lay down in a comfortable position, put on the headphones and light-stimulation glasses and select a relaxation or meditation programme.
After a few seconds, you'll hear soothing pulses through the headphones and at the same time, through your closed eyelids, you'll see the softly flickering lights produced by the glasses. The sounds and the lights start to slow down in synchrony and, without any effort, your mind and body will automatically start to slow down and relax.
You can simply let the Meditation Machine ease you into a tranquil state of peace and serenity. Or you can practice some of the visualisation techniques and affirmations contained in our free ‘Concentrate Your Mind’ course and the frequent ‘hints and tips’ emails that we send to all our customers
With regular use, your general state of mind will improve on a more permanent basis and your levels of depression will reduce accordingly. In addition, you’ll start to find that you have more energy and that your sleep patterns have improved. You’ll find that you become less anxious and that you react to stressful situations in a more controlled manner. You may find that your attitude to life changes and that you have a greater sense of balance. All these things will greatly help to reduce the incidence of depressive episodes.

“I just wanted to give you an update on my use of the Meditation Machine which I got from you last October.
When I started using my Meditation Machine I would still have periods of anxiety/depression but after a couple of months these periods became less and less frequent.>
Now my Meditation Machine is kept at my bedside and I use it every morning before I get up. Then, when I get ready for the day I do so feeling both calm and energized. I am really very happy to have found a non-medication solution to some very difficult medical problems. This little unit helps put the rainbow back into my sky.”

Which machine is best for managing depression?
All our Meditation Machines will help with depression management but we get particularly enthusiastic feedback about our MindSpa system.
"As a person who has suffered with depression for the past 8+ years, I want to thank the makers of the MindSpa for their product. My depression became so bad that I was unable to work or even focus on doing even simple tasks.
I began using my MindSpa on a daily basis and found the results to be immediate. I noticed a decrease in my agitation and literally felt more confident that the cloud of my depression was lifting.
I believe it has also helped me to sleep better. Most importantly, the MindSpa has given me the ability to return to work. Because of this device I am now able to perform my regular job duties which demand a great deal of focus and attention to detail. I am very thankful to have discovered the MindSpa, and I plan to continue using it as a major part in the treatment of my depression”

The MindSpa's Progressive Relaxation Method seem to be especially good for dealing with depression. As you learn to relax into deeper states of mind, you’ll find that you’ll experience greater emotional stability and become mentally stronger. This stability and mental strength will help you to resist yielding to upsurges of emotion and overwhelming feelings.
The MindSpa is also excellent for improving focus, concentration and memory and these are faculties that often deteriorate during bouts of depression.
Finally, the MindSpa system is also excellent at helping with sleeping difficulties and improving your sleep patterns will have a very positive effect on the way you manage depression and anxiety.

The InnerPulse is another system that is effective at helping with depression. It contains 14 sessions that have been specifically designed for relaxation and meditation and these will help to engender the calmness and peace of mind that will keep depression at bay. It also contains breath pacing programmes which can provide another important way of relaxing. These programmes are based on Yoga and Taoist breathing practices and can bring great feelings of serenity and tranquility.
Both the Procyon and the Proteus include relaxation sessions and make use of colour to help shift you into deep levels of mind and body. The green lights of the Proteus will be dominant during relaxation sessions, whilst the Procyon uses washes of green and blue to help ease you into a deep state.
The Sirius has several sessions that can be used for relaxation. Its 'Release the Day' session is particularly effective.
